Cultivation in Kashmir
Kashmir is known for its cultivation of walnuts. The unique climatic conditions of Kashmir favour walnut growth. Walnut trees take approximately 13 years to produce their first crop. Once fully grown, a single walnut tree can yield up to 120kg of nuts annually for about a century. The walnut trees in Kashmir begin to bloom at the onset of spring, typically between March and April. During this time, the valley is adorned with delicate walnut blossoms, signalling the upcoming harvest season. Traditionally, walnuts in Kashmir are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers or sprays, making them organically produced. Walnuts are then hulled, dried naturally, and stored properly.
